FENCE AND GATE SYSTEM WARRANTY

MEREDITH FENCE COMPANY, LLC pledges to ensure that for many years to come, you will have a long lasting, high-quality fence. MEREDITH FENCE COMPANY, LLC offers a 2-year workmanship warranty on all fences we build. Gate closures and locking mechanisms are also warrantied for one-year against defects in workmanship under normal use. We do not warranty the materials, as most of the materials are backed by their own manufacturer warranty when properly installed.

 WHAT TO EXPECT:

                                                                                                          WOOD FENCE

Appearances and Surfaces – Splintering or natural appearances, such as knots on any pressure treated wood are characteristically normal and are caused by the natural effects of drying and weathering. We do not remove mill code stamps/stickers from the wood framing boards for quality control reasons. Surface cracking especially on wood posts and stringers is very normal with treated wood and is not covered under warranty. Swelling and shrinking of boards should be expected as temperature variances occur.

                                                                                       CARE INSTRUCTIONS

WARNING: NEVER USE HARSH CHEMICALS AS THEY ARE KNOWN TO AGGRESSIVELY CORRODE MATERIALS

  1. Seal and Stain: It is hereby recommended, and your responsibility, to professionally clean, stain and seal your pressure treated fence with an exterior sealant designed for pressure treated wood. Most suppliers recommend that you wait at least 2 months after installation, when temperatures are above 50◦F, to ensure proper sealant adhesion. Have your fence professionally cleaned and sealed at least every 2 to 3 years to protect it against the harmful effects of the elements. Avoid painting or staining your fence with a solid stain because these finishes eventually peel and require a significant amount of maintenance. Oil-based stains are recommended because they protect your fence and fade gradually and naturally.
  2. All fences can build up mold, mildew, mud and algae that can all become problematic over time. Wood fences should be sprayed off with a hose to remove surface debris. Use warm, soapy water and a soft bristle brush to remove dirt and debris. It is hereby recommended to have your fence professionally power washed to rid deep debris.
  3. It is your responsibility to lubricate your gate latch to prevent it from freezing in the winter.
  4. Always ensure the gate latch is closed. Windy conditions or forcefully slamming the gate can cause the latch to break or bend out of alignment which is not warrantied.  Limited Warranty On All Fences – This warranty is only effective upon a final on-time payment in full by the customer when the work is completed, as defined in the contract. This warranty is not transferrable to subsequent homeowners. This warranty does not apply to, and is waived by the owner as to any construction work that has been subjected to an accident, misuse and/or abuse, nor does it apply to any construction work that has been modified, altered, defaced, and /or had repairs made/attempted by others. All fence materials can be damaged by many factors beyond MFC’s control. Naturally the warranty does not cover normal wear, unfortunate natural occurrences such as storm damage, high winds and accidents. The warranty does NOT cover negligent maintenance, additions or alterations that have been made to the original fence whether done by the homeowner or another company/contractor. If we are requested to build in a manner that we do not recommend or is not to current code standards, that scope of work will not be covered under warranty. It is important to remember that a fence is an outdoor structure, exposed to harsh environmental changes. Our materials will change with exposure to the elements, this includes aging (or weathering), discoloration or fading and dimensional changes, such as shrinkage, swelling cracking, rotting, warping, bowing and splitting, which are natural occurrences, especially for wood fences. For wood fences, we generally use White Cedar or Pine which will develop cracks or “checking” as the material dries. Checking does not impact the integrity of the fence and is not covered under the warranty. Any additional weight added to the fence or gate (a plant, hose holder, etc.) can cause leaning or sagging which will void your warranty

Warranty Inclusions – Our warranty covers movement or settling within the first year. During the installation we take every measure to ensure posts are at the proper depth and the soil is properly compacted. It is not uncommon with a recently installed fence that the disturbed soil around new fence posts can settle, especially after the first winter and especially in wet areas or clay soil conditions. Settling may cause the fence and/or gate to lean or sag.

We guarantee the proper function of gates and gate hardware, with proper use, within the first year. This includes sagging of gates, defects in the hardware and proper hardware function. Warranty Claims – must be made within ten (10) days of the first knowledge of any defect, as the defect can be exacerbated without prompt attention. Any warranty claim must be made within five years of the completion of the work by MEREDITH FENCE COMPANY, LLC. Completion of the work shall be defined as receiving passed final inspection from the local building inspection department, final walk through with homeowner or final payment. In the unusual event a claim needs to filed, please email us at office@meredithfencecompany.com, provide a brief description of the issue(s) and attach at least (3) photos of the area. Once we review your warranty claim, we will evaluate your concern and pass it to the correct department to provide a solution or a response within 48 hours during regular business hours. If it is an issue not covered under our warranty or workmanship but needs to be addressed, MEREDITH FENCE COMPANY, LLC will submit a proposal to you after evaluating the issue. Our commitment is to deliver a quality product that you are satisfied with for years to come.
